Cincinnati, OH (August
31, 2009)—Ampac Flexibles, the flexible packaging division of
Ampac Packaging LLC, announces the availability of a new line of Flexi-Green™ Polypropylene
Laminate film designed to help companies achieve their packaging sustainability
goals without compromising barrier properties or product freshness.
Developed initially as an
overwrap film for pre-moistened wipes, Flexi-Green can be utilized by packagers
for a wide variety of overwrap applications where moisture barrier, product
longevity, recyclability, and overall sustainability are required. Flexi-Green film is a laminated, all
polypropylene structure that utilizes Ampac’s Flexi-Free solventless technology
which reduces overall energy usage by 80% as compared to traditional
solvent-based processes for laminate films.
Flexi-Green also qualifies for a sustainable energy credit on the
Walmart scorecard.
Flexi-Green is an excellent
packaging solution since the focus on sustainability and recyclable options is
increasing in the current packaging market.
In geographic markets where recycling facilities accept flexible
packaging into their process streams, Flexi-Green provides packagers
improvements in sustainability through its ability to be recycled at these
facilities. In addition, there is also
energy reduction from the solventless lamination process, and the reduction of
product waste through the film’s exceptional moisture barrier properties that
help preserve products that must maintain a specified moisture level.
Flexi-Green is also an option for
packagers that are exploring solutions for weight reduction to the existing
flexible packaging structures. The new
Flexi-Green polypropylene structure can improve the product-to-package ratio by
providing up to 40% weight reduction over some commonly used polyester-to-polyethylene
laminations available in today’s market, while maintaining the packager’s
requirements for moisture barrier and product protection.
“Flexi-Green was initially developed to meet
the needs of the personal care product companies that package pre-moistened
wipes for the consumer and health care markets” says Bob Biddle, President,
Ampac Flexibles Performance Laminations.
“I am excited about the many possibilities for companies in other markets
to utilize this material to help them achieve their sustainability goals with a
flexible packaging option that can offer an improved yield, a more sustainable
lamination technology, and has the ability to be recycled.”
Flexi-Green is
produced exclusively by Ampac Flexibles’ Performance Laminations business in Cary, IL. Performance Laminations combines top-class
